In section 10.1 of the manual, rule #7 provides an example of how to cite an advance online journal article (p. 318). Format this type of reference as you would a typical journal article, but instead of including the volume/issue number and page rage, specify that the work is an advance online publication.
Format:
Author. (Date). Title of article. Title of Periodical. Advance online publication. DOI or URL.
