How do I cite an article or a book that doesn't have an author?

Section 8.14, Unknown or Anonymous Author (pp.264-265), and 9.12, No Author (p. 289), provide information on how to cite works without authors or with unknown authors.

For works with an unknown author, Include the title and publication year in the in-text citation. If the title of the work is not italicized in the reference list, place it in double quotation marks in the in-text citation. If it is italicized in the reference, italicize it in the in-text citation. Capitalize titles within in-text citations.

For the reference list entry, move the title of the work to the author position.

Only list the author as "Anonymous" if the work explicitly uses this term.

For more information on creating references when information is missing, see the APA Style website.
