What do I do if I can't download data from the Bloomberg terminals?

If you are having trouble exporting or downloading data on the Bloomberg terminals, there are several potential causes.

Incorrect export path.

This issue occurs when a user manually changes the export save path in the terminal settings. After that user logs out the terminal will still attempt to export items to the customized location which is tied to their unique identity, causing exports for other users to fail.  To correct this, use the following steps:

  1. Press Alt D to open the Terminal Settings.
  2. Click "Legacy Terminal Defaults". A new window will open.
  3. Click "Setup".
  4. Click "Restore Default Settings".
  5. The Bloomberg application will restart, and you will be prompted to log in again.

To confirm that the correct export path has been restored, follow the above directions to the "Setup" window and click "Download Setup". The export path should be "c:\blp\data".

Data download limit reached.

There is a monthly download limit on each terminal. This limit is set by Bloomberg, and we won't know that it is reached until a download fails. In this case, the best option is to log in to a different terminal to attempt your download.

No export option available.

Some data in Bloomberg is not available for download or export. If you do not see the export option at all, then it is not possible for that particular data.
