How do I find information about a company's intellectual property?
For Canadian companies, search the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) Canadian Patents Database.
- Try the Advanced Search and enter the company name in the "Owners" field.
U.S. patents can be searched at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website.
For an insight into worldwide patents try:
- esp@ecenet (by European Patent Office)
- Patent Lens. This website offers patent tutorials, and a search tools for patents
Search Nexis Uni. Click the Menu button at the top of the homepage and select Patent from the drop-down.
- Also click Menu > Company Dossier. Search for a company. In the company snapshot, click Intellectual Property in the menu to the left
Search Scopus. Do a search (e.g. toothbrush) and then click the Patents tab in the results screen.
Try Google Patents.
