How do I find data for the S&P indices?

Factiva: Hover over Companies/Markets in the top navigation menu and select Quotes. In the "Select instrument" drop-down, select Common Market Indexes. Select an S&P index and generate a current or historical quote.

FT.com (create an account with your @uwo.ca email): Log in to FT.com and click View Markets Data in the top right corner of the screen. Select one of the common indices (e.g. S&P 500) or use the Search Securities box to find a different index.

Capital IQ (available in the Business Library): Search for an index. In the index profile, to the left, see options under the "Financials/Valuation" heading for recent information. For historical information select Chart Builder in the left-hand menu. Select metrics and a date range using the buttons above the chart. Use the Excel button in the top right corner to download daily data.

Bloomberg (available in the Business Library):

  • If you know the ticker for the index, use the command line to type the ticker and then hit the index key, then press GO. (e.g. SPX <Index> <GO>).
  • To browse S&P indices, use the command line to type SECF and hit GO (e.g. SECF <GO>). Use the Category drop-down menu to select Index/Stats. Then use the search box to enter S&P and any other terms as needed. Select the index you are interested in.
