How do I find a company's date of incorporation or year founded?

Look in the FP Survey, Predecessor & Defunct Companies.

In Nexis Uni, under Business and then Company Profiles, search for your company. At the MIDDLE TOP of the screen click on SOURCE.  Look for the sources S&P Corporate Register or US Institutional Database.

In Bloomberg using the field DATE_OR_YEAR_OF_INCORPORATION. A sample formula would look like this:
=BDP("AAPL US Equity","DATE_OR_YEAR_OF_INCORPORATION").
