Where do I find company Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) information?

Sustainalytics: Access risk reports for over 1000 companies. Select ESG Risk Ratings from the "Research" drop-down in the top navigation menu. Then scroll down on the page to search or browse for available companies. Please contact the Business Library for access to this database.

Pitchbook (create an account with your @uwo.ca email): Search for a company using the search box. In the company profile, click the Sustainability tab at the top of the screen. Includes a Sustainalytics ESG Risk Rating, risk rating history, and sections on exposure & management, peer analysis, controversies, and product involvement areas. 

Mergent Online: For ESG ratings of selected leading companies within an industry. Click the Industry analysis tab. Then click Reports from the options on the left, then ESG from the menu that appears on the right. Select an industry and click Download.

Bloomberg (available in the Business Library):

  • Use the command line to enter BI ESG and hit GO (e.g. BI ESG <GO>) to open the Bloomberg Intelligence ESG dashboard.
  • For a company ESG profile, use the command line to enter a ticker, hit the Index key, type ESG, and press <GO> (e.g. AAPL US <Equity> ESG <GO>). When the company is loaded, you can type the following commands for other useful templates:
    • FA ESG Summary Template
    • FA ESGE Environmental Template
    • FA ESGS Social Template
    • FA ESGG Governance Template
  • Bloomberg ESG Certificate, a self-paced, interactive e-learning course that shows learners how to implement ESG strategies and prepare ESG reports for regulators, can be completed on the Bloomberg computers in the library. To find the course:
    1. Log in to the computer with your Western ID and password.
    2. Log in to your Bloomberg account or follow the steps on the screen to create an account.
    3. Once in Bloomberg, type BCER in the command line and hit <GO> (e.g. BCER <GO>).
    4. Click on the Sign Up option and follow the steps to create a Bloomberg for Education account
    5. Sign into your Bloomberg for Education account and a web browser will launch the Bloomberg for Education website
    6. From the Bloomberg for Education website, select the Certificates tab from the top navigation menu
    7. Under the ESG course select "Learn More" to access all the modules 

WRDS datasets (available to graduate students, faculty, and staff):

  • MSCI ESG KLD STATS - an annual dataset of positive and negative ESG performance indicators for publicly traded companies.
  • RepRisk - ESG and reputational risk data on public companies. Captures data from media, stakeholders, and other external sources

Violation Tracker US: a wide-ranging database on corporate misconduct. It covers banking, consumer protection, false claims, environmental, wage & hour, safety, discrimination, price-fixing, and other cases resolved by federal regulatory agencies and all parts of the U.S. Justice Department since 2000

Violation Tracker UK: a free public database that collects over 68,000 cases brought by more than 40 regulatory agencies in the United Kingdom such as the Financial Conduct Authority to the Serious Fraud Office and the Environment Agency

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Disclosure Database: GRI provides guidance on sustainability reporting by helping companies identify, gather and report ESG information in a clear, standard manner.

The Sustainability Accounting Standards Board has developed industry-specific sustainability disclosure standards. The standards themselves are available for download, as well as reports for many different companies.
