How do I find information about joint ventures?

Pitchbook:

  • Screen for joint ventures
    1. Click Companies & Deals in the menu to the left
    2. See the Deal Types tab and check the Join Ventures box under the "Other M&A Transactions" heading.
    3. Add other criteria to your search as necessary
    4. Click Search to see results
    5. Then, in the resulting table, click Deals to see the joint ventures
  • Find joint ventures a company has been involved with
    1. Within the company profile, use the “Profile Type” drop-down to select the Investor profile
    2. Within the investor profile, select the Co-Investors & Add-Ons tab from the menu on the left
    3. See the joint ventures listed and select the deal name to see more info (if available)

Capital IQ (available in the Business Library):

  • Screen for joint ventures
    1. Hover over Screening and select Transactions
    2. Under the "M&A Details" heading, select Features, then select Creation of Joint Venture from the "Available Items" list. Add it as a criteria
    3. Select other criteria as desired (make sure to add them as criteria once selected)
    4. Click on View Results
  • Search for documents mentioning strategic alliances, including joint ventures
    1. Search for the company profile of one of the companies involved in the joint venture
    2. Within the company profile, use the menu on the left to select Strategic Alliances from under the “Business Relationships” heading
    3. Look for the other company involved in the joint venture under the "Strategic Alliance Name" column
      • To see more than the last 2 years, hit the + Customize View button and uncheck the “recently disclosed strategic alliances only (within the last two years) box.
    4. In the “Source” column, select the document link (e.g. Form Doc, or Form 10-K)
  • Search for information in earnings calls and transcripts
    1. Search for the company profile of one of the companies involved in the joint venture
    2. Within the company profile, use the menu on the left to select Transcripts from under the “News, Events & Filings” heading
    3. Use the Search Criteria box to enter a date range and search terms

Bloomberg (available in the Business Library). Use the code MA. Choose the Deal Breakdown tab. Look for "Deal Type Summary" and select Joint Ventures. You can filter by geography and industry.

Mergent Online:

  • Choose the Advanced search tab. Then select the Textual Search tab from the criteria menu. Choose +Joint Ventures and enter a keyword (company, topic, etc.). Add more search criteria as desired.
  • Search for a specific company. In the company profile, choose the Company Details tab. Then choose the History sub-tab. In the topics drop-down, choose a joint venture option to add, and a date range if necessary. 

Search the following databases for information. Try searching both companies involved (e.g. [Company A] AND [Company B]), or the name of the joint venture entity. Add other terms as needed (e.g. [Company A] AND [Company B] AND joint venture]
